6) Beyonce – Single Ladies

Clearly first off: the obvious reason that this song made it so high up was the amazing video. Kanye was kind of right, she did have one of the best videos of all time, it will probably be remembered for a long time. The best part is that the music video era is going through that shift where MTV doesn’t play these videos, but places like YouTube and Vevo do.

Sure the concept was stolen from a combination of places, the most obvious being the Bob Fosse inspired routine:

Clearly, Beyonce saw the video, either the original, or this one set to “Walk it Out” and it had part of the influence. I know the other big factor was the fact that Beyonce spent all her money on the video for “If I Were A Boy.” Apparently she could only afford three small bathing suits. But the video does display some of Beyonce’s best assets and some of her strongest dancing skills.

There have been so many videos online based off of this song my favorite being: Avant Garde Clown performance. Here’s the original, below is an interesting remix.

Either way, the song is classic Beyonce fitting perfectly next to “Crazy in Love.” It has a catchy hook with the claps and synth noises in the background. I like the references to things like her jeans and the kinda Toy Story “Infinity and Beyond” quote.

I just have a lot of love for the song, it’s one of those ones I don’t mind listening over and over and over, while I mime different moves from the music video.
