My Top 30 Songs of 2009 – Number 19
19) Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls
There's something just cool about Franz Ferdinand. Could it be the band name? Maybe their lead singer's vocal abilities? Or maybe, just maybe it's the combination of electronic elements they merge with a rock sound. Franz Ferdinand continued their mathematics combination with "No You Girls." The song is one of those ones that would have been perfect for old school iPod commercials, silhouettes dancing to colorful backgrounds. Granted, they used them for the new commercials, but I just wished that a classic version existed.
I'm almost shocked how poorly this song did on the Billboard charts. It was 106 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it was 18 on the Rock charts. How does that happen nowadays? It didn't fair much better on the digital download lists (I believe 86).
I was disappointed in the fact that almost half of Franz Ferdinand's third album (Tonight: Franz Ferdinand) was the same exact track. Half of them were just weird experimental versions of "No You Girls" or using samples of the original songs in a similar fashion. There was something that I took as almost half-assed about it.
