Hollywood week is my favorite time on American Idol, we’ve finally gotten past the crappy singers and one wonders how well the rest do. Yesterday there were about 180 contestants, tonight is about 96 contestants all doing my favorite part (which doesn’t get enough air time): Group performances. I think both American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance should focus on this section a bit more to showcase some of the teamwork these people have. But here are the reasons why the Group Section really holds little weight:

+ Choreographed Dancing – No contestant has ever really gone on to have a fully blown dance track, so I don’t understand why all these groups insist on making big choreographed numbers.

+ The handful of Gag Contestants survive – Maybe it was just last season that was off, but I still don’t understand how Bikini girl made it through, luckily she caused so much drama during Hollywood week that it was bearable. But how did Nick Mitchell / “Norman Gentle” make it through, I will never know. Oddly, they didn’t show much of Tatiana in her group performance either (or at least I don’t remember it) so I assume she can actually work with others. I’m digressing aren’t I?

+ The unnecessary drama – Lack of sleep causes stress, and then apparently everyone reverts back to their stereotypes. The gays bitch, the stereotypical Black women bitch, the bitchy blonde white chicks bitch, the Latinos bitch, and the rest just cry. Somewhere Tyra Banks is sucking up their souls.

Either way, I will definitely be watching tonight in hopes of a train wreck. There will definitely be tears.

American Idol has created a lot of random crap over the years, while some are good (She Bangs as interpreted by William Hung) others are bad (that “We’re Brothers Forever” by Renaldo Lapuz was just stupid) and this year, we get “Pants on the Ground.”

Here are my top three favorite remixes:

Number 3

Number 2

Number 1

I think that the videos have gotten a bit better now because of how YouTube has affected everything. Though I still will admit, of all the Idol-related funny/bad singers, my favorite by far is still “Ken Lee.” Here’s the video below:

14) Jordin Sparks – Battlefield

One of the most annoying and yet catchy songs of the year. The repetitive-ness of the song was amazing. Seriously how many times can you say “Battlefield” and “Get Your Armor”? Yet the song was so damn catchy that I couldn’t stop listening to it.

I thought the music video was smart but simplistic. Smoke? Check. Flares? Check. Pretty girl in a pretty dress? Hell this video could have been “99 Red Balloons” if you didn’t tell me. I figure a stereotypical “war torn” music video wasn’t that big on budget, as if someone was like “Hey! Fourth of July Sale! Jordin, do you have any dresses from David’s Bridal?”

I rank Jordin Sparks pretty high on my American Idol winners list (It at the moment goes Kelly, Carrie, Jordin… I don’t care for the rest…but if you ask I think it continues as David, Kris, Ruben, Taylor, Fantasia), but even I know while she has a voice, she doesn’t have the passion in it. There’s a huge gap between Carrie Underwood and her.

In the end, I think “Battlefield” had more of an effect on my music than “S.O.S. (Let the music play)” this year because of exposure. I like the music video to “S.O.S.” better, but you can’t really go wrong when you have a club scene, taking a note from Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” and spray paint.

28) Adam Lambert – Time for Miracles

As I mentioned before, Adam Lambert was going to show up on this list. For fans, I guess they would be disappointed that this song didn’t show up later. The song showed up on 2009′s music scene a little late for it to make a big impact. Then “For Your Entertainment” came out and the song just lost all it’s steam.

Like “Happy” yesterday, this song is associated with a movie, this one being connected to 2012. I almost wanted to watch the film until I saw Amanda Peet’s face. That woman is a horrible actress and she deserves to die in every movie. Luckily, the two movies I’ve seen her in (X-Files’ second movie and Identity) she did. Back to the song… The song is very similar to to Aerosmith’s “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” explosions and all and I think Adam does a strong job with what he was given. It may not become the next “My Heart Will Go On” but I’m sure that there will be people out there performing the song for recitals or auditions.

It’s hard to judge American Idol contestants right after they finish their season because their first album tends to be very produced and hand picked for them. They don’t have a great amount of control with their career. I see why this song emerged before “For Your Entertainment” because this one fits more of his American Idol performances.
