Dusty?

Today while I was ready to get some sort of post done, I had my laptop at an interesting angle: it caught every dust particle and finger print on my screen. Since I'm in Plattsburgh, I guess I'll have to deal with the consequences.

Traditionally, I don't mind attacking any electronic based screen with a soft cloth and a a blue cleaner with some ammonia in it. While I like to be green and all, I don't understand why ammonia is evil. I swear, it's good for no streaks. I'm sure that someone out there is screaming "Don't do that to the monitor! Ahhh! Nooooo!" Well, I've been doing it for a while and it seems to work.

I just wiped my monitor with a soft cloth...Well, I guess I'll wait until Monday to get rid of the smudgy fingerprints.

Finding a groove between my parents

Often times, my parents wake me up with a task to do. Let's buy a couch, let's go to Costco, you want lunch? Of course I'm gonna say yes. The image of my mother struggling with a big case of Poland Spring water always pops up in my head and I'm feeling guilty. So I get changed and go.

Thus last week. I analyzed couches and figured out colors. I hauled heavy packages of water. I'm not complaining, I just have to learn how to allot my time better.

Also, I've been working on a project for work and holy crap is my head going to explode.

I'm sure you get those weeks. I'm dealing, but mostly because I'm catching up this week. Let's hope that everything will be caught up by Thanksgiving, or else I'll be behind even more so.

A quick thought on Russell from Survivor

I'm having trouble accepting Russel (H.) as a good player on Survivor: Samoa. My problem with it is that he's being force-fed by the editors to be this amazing game player. Announcing in the beginning of the season that he is "The most evil-est player in Survivor history" is the dumbest thing because now he can't live up to the hype.

I do think that he is an above average player with some smart goals (get rid of the week, look really good in camp, trim your own alliance members if they try to turn on you) but if he was in Galu we would have never seen this. With the one exception: could he have been throwing challenges in a Mole fashion? He looks like he's pulling his weight, but then there are times when he looked like "oh he tried his hardest" (Bocce ball, Holding on to the rope of coconuts) and could have dropped out without looking like a complete waste. While his gameplay isn't groundbreaking, it shouldn't be announced that it is amazing. There have been good players in this game (I think of Richard Hatch, Brian from Thailand, and Cirie come to mind) and there are good Under the Radar players (Sandra, Amber, Becky, Sue) and the only reason that we keep seeing Russell on our screen is because he's a better player than all these idiots that get casted because they are good looking.

I'm hearing some interesting things about Russell (and his shadow Natalie) when the two make the merge and now that they are really outnumbered I hope they (with Mick and Shambo) can turn the game around.

Thursday Links

Whoops, a little late here:

Project Runway: Sequins, Feathers, and Fur. Oh, My! - TV Squad

Grey's Anatomy: Invasion - TV Squad

Some thoughts:

Project Runway - None of the outfits made, maybe with the exception of Nicolas' piece, was Christina Aguilera worthy. Even Nicolas' looked like a knockoff of Laura from Season 3. Stop doing ugly jackets that are just poofs of fur.

Grey's Anatomy - I'm happy because i'll have five episodes without that damned Izzie.

Top Model - I like the concept, but I'm starting to hate Sundai. Even if she looks like mini-Dani (Season 6).

SYTYCD - I couldn't stop cringing after seeing tennis ball ankle.

Articles from last night

Here are two episode review/recaps:

Jon & Kate Plus Eight: School Days - The Celebrity Cafe

Dancing with the Stars: Performance #4 - TV Squad.

If you'd like please leave comments about DWTS, it's getting happily heated complaining about score differentials and the fact that professionals don't know the dances that they had to teach the celebrity.

My Opinion on Jon & Kate - It's nice to see Jon being civil with Kate for the sake of the children, but the real question is how does one order sneakers for little kids online and get the sizes perfect? Aren't they going to grow out of the shoes by the time the order makes it to the house?

My Opinion on DWTS - It's unfair that the professionals got dances they didn't know. To make it worse that probably made the celebrities feel uneasy. I'm really disappointed that Two-Step sucked so much. Also for a conspiracy moment: which of the three Two-Steppers originally had Bolero? Tom DeLay said he would have had the Two-Step, meaning there would have been four two-steps and only two Boleros. I have a feeling that Mark got shafted and was given the Two-Step after being announced that he had the Bolero (to improve his Rumba criticism).

More TV reviews

Here's my reviews of last nights Project Runway and Grey's Anatomy:

Project Runway: A Fashionable New Beginning - TV Squad

Grey's Anatomy: Tainted Obligation - TV Squad

As an aside, I'm a little apprehensive still about Survivor. They keep shoving Russell down our throats as the most evilest villain ever. It's annoying. That's why the Amazing Race wins Emmys and you guys bitch and moan. It's quality level.

Reviewing Music

I’ve recently gotten back into reviewing music. It’s a weird process in my head. You have to analyze, and skew the music trying to figure out what are the merits (and problems) with the album. It’s a lot harder than it sounds.

It’s not that I want to gush over everything, that wouldn’t make any sense either. But in all truths, I can’t fully bash an album. If an album is placed out the thing probably will get an automatic 2/10. There is only one instance that would garner something lower: Compilation albums. If it’s half assed, I will tell you either to buy the tracks individually or the original albums. Compilations don’t make sense if they don’t add anything. I don’t care if it’s music videos, remixes, a special booklet, or instrumentals/acapella tracks for remixers.

Either way, I think I found my ear. Yes!

File this under free

I've recently picked up a new office chair for my "office." I think that now with the chair, it feels more office-y. So... how much was the office chair? Well, actually it was free. I saw it at the side of a dumpster at Office Depot. It looked perfectly fine on the initial look and so I quickly shoved the fully assembled chair into my trunk. The funny thing was that somehow it made it easily into my car and I had so much trouble getting it out. My neighbors just looked at me funny as I tried to pull out an old office chair. I told myself that if anyone asked (at that moment) that I got it from one of the billion yard sales that was happening that weekend.

I grabbed the chair and dragged it to the backyard. I mixed up some OxyClean with some water and attacked the chair with a brush. I let the chair sun dry for a little bit. After a little bit, I scrubbed it again. It dried and I placed it in my office. I sat down and it still felt dirty to me. So I attacked the chair with a steamer/iron. Whatever was still annoying me disappeared.

The chair is in perfect condition: the cushion is very comfortable, the seat rises and falls correctly, and the chair leans correctly. There are no arms, but I'm not the type who is obsessive for arms. I don't see why anyone tossed it. Either way, I didn't pay for the chair and just a little bit of elbow grease brought the chair to tip-top condition. I consider it being green, whilst Eric considers it a little dirty. I swear, I cleaned it.

It's weird, with the addition of the chair, the office has become more of an office. I had a hard wooden chair that I was using and it was a little too uncomfortable. Ironically, I use it for scrapbooking and now it's returned to the scrapbooking desk. Why do I have three desks?
