Heyyy! Long time no see!
I know, I know...I own a blog. I should probably use it. I've been pre-occupied with three things:
- Designing some stuff for Jam Asia - Fashion scene...harajuku wedding...a lot of stumbles
- Grad School - Just applying is a toughie. I hate my personal statement, but it needs two more revisions until I'm confident about it.
- General Life - You know...sometimes you forget you have a blog. I swear I know I should have updates, but I forget. Sorry.
Here you go: to make you feel better:
Oh Asians...
Top Model: Talk About No Budget
There was something up about America's Next Top Model this season: there's no money is there? The girls show up at a Sheraton hotel, which is nearby Universal Studios Hollywood. At least last season they had a somewhat good looking hotel for the short models. I dunno announcing the Sheraton just doesn't sound that good.
Also, I'm not that sure how I feel about all the make-overs. There wasn't any really intense weave work, or huge dye jobs. Hell, we even focused on armpit hair. There was no bleach blond girl. I guess there was no budget for peroxide.
But then I realized the big thing: I don't recall seeing any advertisements. I looked and managed to find one advertisement this year, but it was a rehash of all the girls (i assume) fadeout photo using the same exact poses. I mean remember this one:
They could afford crinkly paper. Oh, if you're wondering, last season's was some form of bathing suits.
I understand that Tyra is ending her talk show, maybe she can finally put money back into her modeling show. I don't even care about credibility, lets try to move this show to HD.
Oh and PS: I want my end fadeout back. If this Youtube user can do it, they could with a cheap budget:
How I would have done it: The elements of fashion
Project Runway posed an interesting challenge for their designers: create a piece based off of the four natural elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) I'm no fashion designer, but after having a bit of exposure with watching fashion shows and creating a "collection" for Jam Asia this year, I had some ideas of how I would have done the challenge.
Fire - I would have played with the idea of going literal with fire mixing the blues with yellows of a flame. The piece would be a sleek and form fitting dress.
Water - I do like the idea of using an animal as inspiration, but I probably would have gone with a clam. Work one of those really ruffled collars representing the shell of the clam and then make the rest of the dress a very flowy light blue dress. Possibly play with the hair (since this was supposed to be associated with Garnier) and turn it into a pearl.
Earth - After being confused by Mila's execution, I realized that gemstones count as "earth" I would play with a black dress with a cool rooted gold design representing the idea of mining a vein of gold.
Air - I mentioned this on my post, but I really like the idea of doing a toxic gas. A free flowing, very open bottom, and corseted top. This idea of the smoke crawling across the lands. I guess kinda trench warfare/ World War 1-esque.
I guess it would just be easy to coast, but I think the exposure of the show would speak for itself. I wouldn't want to have the high scores until near the end of the season. While everyone else is drained of creativity, I decide to unleash some extra energy. Then again that's probably the same technique I would have with Survivor (pair up with someone, have paired decisions, move around the tribe when needed, make bold moves post merge).
