My Top 30 Songs of 2009 – Number 26
26) David Guetta - When Love Takes Over (Ft. Kelly Rowland)
I think that Kelly Rowland is underrated, especially in comparison to Beyonce. She was definitely shadowed. Kelly also never got that big success that Beyonce received. I'm happy to hear a dance-driven version of Kelly and I'm happy to hear how well she does. Now, she does about par when she's singing live; I remember all of her Destiny's Child training and the woman should know how to dance and breathe.
I find "When Love Takes Over" to be a throwback to classic disco. I can hear similarities to Donna Summer. The lyrics are overtly sexual basically telling the audience: Tonight, you and me gel, so it's time for sex. Let's do it all night.
The song is really catchy, but for some reason I found the song to get old quickly. I could only listen to the song maybe twice a week. I think it was the fact that I got tired after bouncing the whole time during the dance. Still, it's a fun song. As I write this, I decided to listen to the song again and I think that the break I took from listening to this song over the summer to December actually improved my appreciation of the song.
