My Top 30 Songs of 2009 – Number 16
16) Lily Allen - Not Fair
I was happy to hear when Lily Allen was releasing another album. The Fear was a strong release, but I thought the title track was okay, nothing groundbreaking. There was a lot more nuances to the rest of the album. I was happy to hear that Lily Allen/her management decided to release "Not Fair" as a single. The song has a very simplistic Cowboys & Indians sample to it, but the light and airy voice of Lily was enough to keep the song fresh and interesting.
I end up watching a lot of old school videos from artists like... Loretta Lynn and I found watching Lily Allen's music video to be great. The style was very close to the music performances of back in the day. I was almost shocked how well Lily fit into that 70s look.
I'm hoping for more creative videos and songs from Lily Allen in the future, but I have a feeling she'll lose her edge very quickly. There's something about Lily Allen's lyrics that I find to be amazing, probably the fact that they are direct. She's blunt and that's great.
